The next time you’re looking for a break from the stresses of life, seek out The Retreat on the peninsula at Possum Kingdom Lake. The Retreat has seven cabins on over three acres. Their cozy, furnished cabins come with attached covered porches for relaxing and watching the sun set. The Retreat is located across the street from a public boat ramp and The Dock, where you can peruse their selection of watercraft rentals.

Just 90 minutes from DFW International Airport and around the corner from Possum Kingdom Lake lies Wildcatter Ranch and Resort. Located on Highway 16 between PK Lake and Graham, Wildcatter Ranch is a beautiful escape from the city. The ranch is surrounded by nature, history and offers a one-of-a-kind upscale western adventure. From guided activities with local cowboys to hand-cut mesquite-grilled steaks at the steakhouse, this is the perfect place for a family getaway, a couples weekend, or even a wedding.

Need a place to sit back and relax? Visit Rock Creek Camp where you can unwind on a shady porch, feed the ducks or just enjoy lake life for a bit. Rock Creek has 16 rentals of various sizes available. Golden Cove, now under new ownership, has gotten some well-deserved upgrades. Located on the peninsula, Golden Cove offers 11 cabins for rent, 100 mobile home sites and access to a boat launch. Each cabin includes a microwave, refrigerator, central heat & air, cable TV and linens. Barbecue grills and picnic tables are also available. Visitors can purchase food, drinks, lake gear and more at their general store. Don’t forget to check out WaterRush for watercraft rentals.

Want to do some camping? Grab the family and head over to Possum Kingdom State Park. You’ll have your option of an air-conditioned cabin or camp site. With over 300 miles of shoreline, this park is in no shortage of scenic views. For those looking to get active, stop by the park store to rent a canoe, water ski or wakeboard, and for those with little ones, sign them up to become a Junior Park Ranger.
