4 Tips to Create Your Outdoor Living Space

Since we’ve all been spending so much more time indoors recently, creating the perfect outdoor space may have recently found a spot on your to-do list. Since there’s a good chance that you’re still working from home, having a spot outdoors to relax and unwind with your favorite beverage is the ideal way to take a break.

If you’re going to create an amazing space outdoors, be sure to take the time to plan and consider what to include, just like you would with your indoor space. Here are some of my favorite tips for designing a beautiful and inviting outdoor living space.

Have a Focal Point

Every room in your home has a focal point, and your outdoor living space is no different. Whether you use a fire pit, a coffee table, or hang a TV outside, create your space with the focal point in mind. Once you know what your focal point is going to be, it’ll be easier to decide what type of furniture you want to buy.

Find Comfortable and Stylish Seating

You wouldn’t want to spend the money on an outdoor space that is rarely used because the furniture isn’t comfortable. Investing in high-quality outdoor furniture and seating is important in creating a space where family and friends will want to gather time and time again. You’ll want to find durable pieces made of materials like teak, aluminum, wrought iron, and resin wicker that not only look good but can also endure changing weather elements.

Add in Some Color

The outdoors tend to have a lot of browns, greens, and blues—you know, the colors of nature. That’s why bringing in some pops of other colors will make your space stand out and be more inviting. There’s a variety of ways you can bring in color. Some of my favorite ways include an outdoor rug, throw pillows, flowers, or décor. Consider what pops of color you want to add and sprinkle it throughout the space.

Shelter from the Sun

Some of us are lucky enough to have a covered deck or patio, but others aren’t. During the summer, having shelter from the sun is important. A great, inexpensive way to quickly add some shade to your outdoor living space is by using a large outdoor umbrella. If you’re handy with tools, consider building a pergola for the patio; this will also add some architecture to the area.
