6 Easy DIY Hacks to Decorate Your Home on a Budget

The DIY home décor movement has shown us that you don’t have to spend a fortune to decorate your home. From farmhouse to industrial and everything in between, there are easy, DIY hacks that will take your home from drab to fab on a shoestring budget.

1. Farmhouse Rope Basket

You don’t have to spend a fortune on rope baskets to add charm and character to your space. It’s cheap and easy to make your own. In fact, if you already have a bucket (or basket) and rope on hand, this is a décor piece you can make for practically nothing.

And it’s so easy, anyone can do it.

Use a hot glue gun to wrap and secure the rope around the basket. Continue wrapping around until you reach the top, making sure each new row is tightly secure against the previous (no gaps in between).

Add blankets, pillows or whatever you want to your basket to add a little farmhouse charm to your space.

2. Succulent Planters

Succulents add some bright color and life to your space. They’re so easy to care for, anyone can keep them alive.

Sure, you can buy expensive planters for your succulents, but why do that when you can make your own using inexpensive items you can find at the dollar store.

Try this DIY version from Craftberry Bush. She glues glass jars between ceramic dollar store bowls to create a tiered plantar that’s perfect for succulents. It looks every bit as luxurious as the West Elm planter she was inspired by.

3. Animal Bookends

Inspired by the animal décor trend? Love Grows Wild shows you how to turn plastic animal sculptures and a few pieces of wood into trendy book ends that will steal the show.

With a little glue and some spray paint, you won’t be able to tell the difference between your DIY book ends and the pricey ones sold at Pottery Barn.

4. Mason Jar Soap Dispensers

A simple way to add farmhouse charm to your home is to make your own mason jar soap dispensers. You can find mason jars at most stores, including the dollar store. Choose smaller jars for this project, and make sure that they come with lids.

Everyday Dishes explains how to make these simple, fun soap dispensers. You’ll need some simple tools and spray paint to get the job done.

5. Farmhouse Tin Planters

All it takes is a little greenery and some tin planters to add French country charm to your home.

This project is incredibly simple and inexpensive. You’ll need two things:

  • Galvanized flowerpots.
  • Faux greenery.

You can find both of these items at craft stores or even the dollar store. Just place your faux greenery in the pots, and voila! You have a French country piece of décor that will brighten up any space in your home.

6. Industrial Shelves

The industrial look is very trendy right now, but you don’t have to pay a hefty price to get this look. With a little time and ingenuity, you can transform a simple Ikea metal shelf into a wood and metal shelf.

BlogLovin walks you through the process. A little black spray paint, some wood shelves and a few simple tools are all you need to complete this DIY project.
